Laura Gilpin

Growing up in Colorado, Laura Gilpin began taking photos as a teenager, eventually honing her craft in New York and Europe. She settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico and spent her 60+ year career creating a photographic record of Navajo life, as well as being one of the few female landscape photographers of her time. She published numerous books, including The Rio Grande: River of Destiny (1949), where she photographed the entire length of the river and how communities exist and sustain themselves around it.
