Rosa Bonheur

Here I am figuring out how to reinterpret an image in my own illustration style. I haven’t attempted drawing many animals on my iPad, so this was also new!

The source image is by Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899), a French painter and sculptor best known for her meticulous portraits of animals. Internationally recognized as well as unconventional, she wore trousers (*gasp*) in public, which required a legal permit at the time. This gave Bonheur access to men’s work environments such as slaughterhouses and horse shows, where she studied animal anatomy.
